Ingleton & District Tradespeople's Association
Our Constitution, dated June 1964, states:
"The objective of the Association to be to discuss all matters affecting the Trade and the promotion of good fellowship between Tradesmen, and to further the trade of the village generally"
An AGM is held every year in January and is open to all members. At this meeting a committee of about 12 members is elected for the coming year. Meeting monthly, the committee oversees a number of activities aimed at increasing the number of visitors to Ingleton and thus the business, directly or indirectly, of members.
These activities include:
The Tourist Information Centre
Established by the IDTA over 25 years ago, the TIC is still run by the Association who are totally responsible for its operation and funding. In the course of a typical year the TIC will be host to over 20,000 visitors, will answer over 200 postal enquiries and will deal with more than 1,000 telephone enquiries.
Publications
The IDTA are very active in promoting and raising the profile of the village to encourage visitors and the associated trade.
Every year the IDTA produces an Accommodation List for the area - distributing in excess of 4,000 copies. A full colour leaflet promoting Ingleton is also produced and widely distributed along with a separate multi-lingual leaflet
Three books - "Walks around Ingleton" , "Views around Ingleton" and "A Pocket Guide to Ingleton" are published by the IDTA.
Publicity
Every year since 1993, the IDTA has organised a full colour feature on Ingleton in
'The Visitor' newspaper, negotiating discounted advertising rates for members. 200.000 copies of the paper are widely distributed throughout the
National Park every year.
We also actively support the Ingleton Website, which is currently administered by Ingleton 2000.
The brown tourist signs on the A65 were purchased by the IDTA and we are responsible for their maintenance and insurance.
Folk Weekend
Every year since 2000, the IDTA has organised a very successful
Folk Weekend in October. The weekend attracts many visitors to the village and it benefits the shops, pubs and guest houses as well as the local community as a whole.
Representation
The IDTA has representatives on the IRCA and Ingleton 2000. In addition it is frequently consulted by
North Yorkshire County Council,
Ingleton Parish Council and various other local and national bodies, over a variety of issues. However, whilst trying to fairly represent the tradespeople of Ingleton, it is not possible to consult with all members on all occasions and there is often great difficulty in reconciling opposing points of view.
Christmas
Every Christmas the IDTA organises and pays for the festoon lighting in the village centre. The Parish Council pays for the electricity. The IDTA, together with the NSPCC, also organise the Late Night Shopping/Christmas Fayre, paying for various entertainments and insurance.
Local Support
The IDTA regularly supports fund raising activities by other local organisations such as the Ingleton Gala.
